Licence

Open access means lawful use under stated terms, not uncertainty about what may be copied, assigned, translated, or adapted.

The Textbook Project is committed to open access through clear licences and no access charges. Readers should be able to know what they may read, share, assign, cite, and reuse without relying on informal copying.

The specific licence terms vary by textbook and are indicated on each chapter page. Most materials are published under a Creative Commons licence that permits non-commercial use with attribution.

When citing, assigning, or adapting materials, please provide appropriate attribution including the author, chapter title, version, publication date, and a link to the original.

Commercial use, derivative works for commercial purposes, and uses not covered by the applicable licence require separate permission. This protects the free public model from being converted back into a paywalled or extractive one.

Attribution

When using materials from The Textbook Project, cite the author, chapter title, edition or version, publication date, and URL. Chapter pages provide citation details so references can identify the exact text used.

Permissions beyond the licence

For uses not covered by the open licence — including commercial publication, translation into additional languages, or adaptation beyond the licence terms — please contact us before proceeding. A2KF does not charge for access to the project, but permissions still matter where reuse may affect authorship, accuracy, or the non-commercial character of the publication.
